Roger Langford ~ KCS Music Director from October 2010

-
Roger has been involved with music making since the age of five, when he had, rather reluctantly, his first piano lesson. He was a chorister at Lichfield Cathedral, music scholar at Repton School, studied music at York University and opera at The Royal Academy of Music.
-
He has been a professional singer for twenty-five years, working extensively in theatrical and concert environments. He has sung roles for Scottish Opera, English Touring Opera, The English Bach Festival Trust and Pavilion Opera, with whom he has travelled to Japan twice. He has recorded for BBC Radio 3 on a number of occasions, notably in a solo recital of songs by Purcell, Locke and Arne. He has been under the baton of Sir Roger Norrington, Pierre Boulez, Marc Minkowski and Thierry Fischer. He sang with the Holst Singers for 7 years, working with Stephen Layton.
Roger still actively pursues his singing career, performing, for instance, Elijah at Leominster Priory, Pontypridd and Bridgend in the last 4 years, and as bass soloist for KCS' 2010 'The Brothers Haydn' concert . He regularly performs with the highly-respected Border Voices acapella Early Music choir, has sung several solo recitals in Hereford and Leominster with local pianist Stewart Taylor, and is looking forward to working further with both Stewart and another well-known musician, Hilary Norris (organist for many KCS concerts).
Roger divides the rest of his time between teaching performing arts at Hereford Art College, private singing teaching and running various workshops promoting vocal health including running singing sessions on behalf of The Alzheimer’s Society. He has conducted the Gwent Bach Society for nearly 9 years, and was also the Music Director of the Hereford Chamber Choir from 2004 – 07. In addition to his new role with KCS, Roger has also taken over responsibility for The Marches Chamber Choir - a busy musical life !!
