Kington Choral Society (KCS) is based in the small market town of Kington, Herefordshire, on the Welsh Borders.
The chorus re-formed in 1996, after a gap of some years, as Kington and District Choral Society, under the directorship of Charles Allsopp. Maureen Twiddy took over as Music Director in February 1999 and thanks to her efforts and enthusiasm the chorus expanded dramatically, drawing in singers from further afield, and so the name was changed to Kington Choral Society. After the adoption of a constitution in 2000, charitable status was obtained in 2004.
Following Maureen's retirement and farewell KCS concert in October 2010, Roger Langford took over as the KCS Music Director and conductor. Roger also directs the Gwent Bach Society, sings with local Early Music choir Border Voices, and in addition to his own professional baritone soloist career, is heavily involved with teaching music in the area including working with disadvantaged groups including "Singing for the Brain" for the Altzheimers Society.
KCS is an 'open access' choir, with emphasis given to singing the major choral works. You will find examples of these in the 'past concerts' section of the website.
